Sarinah to Celebrate National Batik Day
On 1st October 2017, Sarinah is set to celebrate National Batik Day at its Thamrin department store in Jakarta. This nationwide event aims to mark the anniversary of UNESCO’s recognition of batik as a ‘Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity’. As a renowned retailer of Indonesian batik, the company will feature a vertical catwalk which will see models descend the Sarinah building whilst showcasing the company’s batik collection.
This year’s event is organised in collaboration with the Indonesian Batik Foundation and the Student Association MAPALA, guests will have the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the wide variety of batik fabrics on display from different regions throughout Indonesia; the company also provides a platform for young and innovative batik designers to expose their talents on a consumer level. Sarinah’s participation in National Batik Day demonstrates the company’s dedication to maintaining traditional Indonesian crafts and heritage products. Given the Ministry of Trade’s ongoing success to promote local products, Sarinah thus stands as a vehicle to facilitate the growth of up-and-coming Indonesian brands.
